I have setup the shop with links (Buy Now) that allow you to download the clipart set as zip files as soon as you make the payment. You can make the payment either through debit/credit card or through PayPal.

Check the shop now!

Any suggestions on the kind or nature of clipart you may want to buy is most welcome.

Self Portrait - 2nd attempt

I used a photo my friend had taken a year back as reference. But I did change a lot of things in this second portrait, like the hair. I had it much longer than I have painted.

I even made a deviantID out of it for myself. :P

KalaaLog Tutorial Index Pages Updated

Took some time to go through and update my tutorial index pages at KalaaLog.com.

Main tutorial index page has been updated to point to links to the tutorials I wrote at KalaaLog.com to this day. It contains all the general drawing, tool guides, digital painting and vector illustration tutorials.

Similar to the Dragon Workshop page, I created a new page called Peacock Workshop that contains links to all the related tutorials.

This is quite a time consuming work - but I hope it helps readers find what they need. There are now officially 200 posts at KalaaLog.com.

Fantasy RPG - Grunt Items - Illustrations

Fantasy RPG - Grunt Items - GroupedThis is a project I started working on spontaneously.

When we think of roleplaying games, especially fantasy RPGs, there are some itmes that come to mind, and are commonly used.

So, I racked my brain to think of something and was, as a matter of fact, quite overwhelmed by the amount of items.

Hence, I thought of tackling them one topic after another.

Grunt Combat Items

Fantasy RPGs are filled with combat, and there are a lot of 'stock' characters that are quite disposable from perspective of players. They are adorned with the most basic gear.

Fantasy RPG - Grunt Items

I finished illustrating knife, short sword, basic shield, a simple helmet, and a water pouch for the soldier/grunt who has it handy on missions where travel is invovled.

I would be making them available as free cliparts at KalaaLog.com once I put some finishing touches. I am also thinking of making some illustrations of complex items for a fee - I have started work on these too.

This should turn out to be an interesting project. Smile

On Logo and Design of CGPainting.com

I almost missed Martin's post on community building:

I suspect he will be going into an indepth design process for a forum, and there will be more articles to come.

Anyway, for CGPainting.com, I did the logo design.

After creating some rough sketches, I got down to the actual logo design using Inkscape. The brush like shape, and the earthly brown color gave the logo a traditional medium feel to it, and the geometric shapes for composing the 'CG' gave a digital vibe to it.

Martin, as I mentioned, goes into indepth detail of getting a custom logo designed. Having not much of a commercial outlook for CGPainting.com, I did not find it necessary to do so. I did not even want to stick to the default (boring) vBulletin skin, and thus I browsed through the vBulletin.org's gallery of themes, and settled for Blue Darkness.

I might invest some money at a future date depending on how the community picks up. Else, I do not find it necessary to invest into the design, when there are quite a lot of custom but free themes available.

Dragon Artwork Study Plan

The Moleskine seems to be already fueling my momentum. I have had some study sketches done on Dragons and that led to some brainstorming on what I would be writing at KalaaLog.com.

You should be able to move it around by dragging the image with mouse. I used bubbl.us to create the brainstorming mind map. Need to see how this turns out.

CG Search Trends

  • I found some interesting trends I got when I compared three different search phrases in Google Trends. Here is a snapshot.

This is what I assume out of it:

  • Computer Graphics was a sought after topic way before 2004, but it has been gradually decreasing
  • Vector art has been shown stable interest for around three years
  • The term "digital painting" is a more recent terminology

Since Google does not provide actual search volumes, we can deduce quite a bit observing the trends.

This should be some food for thought. :) Have you done any such 'trend analysis'?
