Journey Down The Cyber Lane

It has been quite a while since I have been on the Internet. It basically started roughly ten years back, when I had to pay Rs.80 per hour online in a browsing center. Rs.80 was a lot - you could buy around ten meals with that during those times. And over that, the connections were slow as they were dial-up conetions. You had to wait ages for webpages to load.
Then, I used to access the Internet only for accessing my Yahoo Mail (with 20MB inbox), or browse NASA site. Yes, I was kind of geeky who was a fan of anything related to space technology.
During those times, I had my personal web page hosted at the free webpage provider - Geocities. Here is the URL: http://geocities.com/vyomaraja/ Please do not laugh. Times changed, and I soon got invovled in RPGs over the Internet. It started of with me downloading the FUDGE system on to multiple 1.4" floppy disks - they were alway prone to loosing data. And that got me hooked on to Alleria Roleplaying Forums. I then got myself a free online forum at InvisionFree.com. As a offshoot of this, I had a journal setup at JoeUser - http://vyoma.joeuser.com
By this time, I was out of achadameics and into work life. I started of with a blog at Blogspot: http://kmaheshbhat.blogspot.com - Ponderings of Mahesh Bhat It still did not have coherence, and then I moved on to the blog service, Blogcharm - http://www.blogcharm.com/splat - Splat. Yes, Splat had its days in a blog service provider, as it evolved into a good publishing medium.
Parallely during these times, I had become a long standing member at AstaHost.com forums. They were giving 150 MB space with 1 GB bandwidth. The best part was, I had FTP access to it and I could tryout PHP coding. I felt the time was right, and got myself a domain name WiseTome.com. And then, I moved Splat over from Blogcharm, under my own domain. This is where it sits now. http://www.wisetome.com/splat
This gave me a good blogging experience. Three of my friends came over and have contributed some articles at Splat. I started getting overwhelming hits at Splat on art and CG related search terms and I knew I had to focus on that too. Thus was born, KalaaLog - http://kalaalog.com
Splat was focused on more other topics and I did not want the design and art topics overwhelming it. KalaaLog focused on a niche and Splat remains a space where general information gets published - ready for the eyes of those who seek information. And during all these times, WiseTome as such at the root became a place for extensive articles to be placed.
And then I shifted to paid host. And then I bought a domain name, based on my full name and here I am. Reflecting on the journey. ![]()
